Testosterone is a hormone essential for men’s sexual health and pleasure. Aside from that, it also functions as a controller for the distribution of lean mass in the body and the rate at which men burn fats. In most men with healthy testosterone levels, it helps regulate mental health. With studies showing that 2.1% (about 2 men in every 100) have low testosterone, testosterone supplements have become a common treatment option for most men, causing more studies and research to be conducted on its ingredients.
However, the primary issue remains that most testosterone supplements aren’t what they claim to be. So, in this article, we take a look at one of the popular supplements in the industry, Semenax.

ToggleManufactured by Leading Edge Health, a company founded in the late 1990s and known for the manufacturing and marketing of dietary supplements, Semenax is a natural supplement that helps the male body create and release more semen when ejaculating. It also claims to improve men’s sexual performance and overall wellness. According to the manufacturers, the vitamins, amino acids, and herbal extracts used in its production were picked due to their positive effect on the reproductive system of men.
Semenax producers say that, unlike a majority of other supplements, theirs is more than just an ordinary male reproductive enhancing product, with unproven claims of being tried, proven to be effective, and without adverse side effects.
There are several ingredients found in Semenax. Below, we look at them and their supposed function in the supplement.
L-arginine HCL is an amino acid essential for a number of physiological activities in the body. It’s a quite common ingredient in most supplements designed to increase male sexual function, especially ejaculation quality and quantity. L-Arginine Hcl helps the body produce nitric oxide, which assists blood vessels’ relaxation and widening as well as enhancing blood flow.
The perceived theory is that, by helping the transfer of oxygen and nutrients to the genital area, precisely the seminal vesicles responsible for producing semen, the enhanced blood flow may benefit sexual activity and aid in sperm production and quality.
Also widely known as horny goat weed, this ingredient is regularly promoted as a naturally occurring supplement for improving sexual performance and treating sexual health issues. One of the substances found in this ingredient, called Icariin, is claimed to be capable of positively affecting sexual function. It’s also believed to improve the body’s nitric oxide synthesizing process by relaxing blood vessels and aiding blood flow to the genital area.
Zinc is widely regarded as an essential mineral for several biological processes, including the reproductive system health. So it’s no surprise it’s part of the ingredients in Semenax. While it is vital for general health, there is some evidence that suggests it might be able to improve semen generation, increasing ejaculation volume. Testosterone, the hormone responsible for sperm generation, is regulated and synthesized by zinc. As such, for proper healthy sperm growth — quality, and motility — high zinc levels are required.
These seeds are often nutrient-rich and have a variety of health benefits. Like omega-3 fatty acids and magnesium, zinc is abundant in pumpkin seeds, which helps in developing a healthier sperm. Zinc has been linked to the production of better sperm count, motility, and quality.
This ingredient contained in Semenax is a vital component in the synthesizing of proteins and the creation of enzymes, antibodies, hormones, and other physiological activities. Though unproven, L-lysine plays a part in supporting the production of enzymes and hormones needed in reproductive function. As such, the supplementation of L-lysine might improve semen output. However, taking L-lysine excessively in a supplement can result in adverse effects.
L-carnitine is a chemical compound made in the human brain and responsible for turning fat into energy through metabolism. L-carnitine can be found in the epididymis, a body part that plays a role in the storage and maturation of sperm. As such, it’s thought to play a role in metabolism and sperm motility.
This flower is a natural product that is frequently included in several supplements due to their speculated benefits of increasing ejaculation volume. Swedish flower pollen contains minerals, vitamins, enzymes, amino acids, and some trace elements. These components are thought to support prostate health and improve overall sexual performance.
While some of these ingredients might have some level of effectiveness, it’s worth noting that a urologist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Dr Jessica Yih, says that, “while some ingredients are ones that have been studied, with some limited evidence to suggest effectiveness, the dosages may be too low to be effective.”
Most of the ingredients contained in Semenax are quite common in most supplements and their effectiveness is based on assumptions and mythical beliefs. It remains to be seen or proven scientifically as to which extent or role they may play.
Semenax producers claim it organized a ‘clinical two-month double-blind study of 63 men’ to ascertain the effectiveness of Semenax compared to another group of men who took placebo. At the end of the research, they claim “A higher number of patients in the Semenax® arm showed a 20% or more Increase in ejaculate volume as compared with the placebo.”
Despite this critical report being available on their website, its credibility remains to be seen as there was no research page or process to backup the claims of how effective Semenax can be. Furthermore, a 20% effective rate of approximately 12 men out of 63 can be considered a high margin for a supplement intended to improve men’s sexual performance and sperm quality.
Semenax claims to offer a plethora of benefits to its users and they include:
Some of these benefits have been widely backed and claimed to be true by users who take this supplement. However, they remain to be verified by more credible research to ensure the safety of users.
Semenax claims it’s safe to use because its supplement is made from natural ingredients, following strict quality control. However, like most supplements, individual reactions may vary, and some mild side effects may arise, such as diarrhea, bloating, nausea, and abdominal discomfort.
Semenax supplement is not a bad choice for improving sexual performance, but it’s not great either. Though most of its ingredients may have some effectiveness potency, they’re not added in the right amount in each dosage.
